Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to experience an island paradise? Uniquely located on its own private isle in the Zambezi River, Sindabezi Island is the discerning traveller’s best kept secret.
Everything about this luxury lodge, from its pristine natural surroundings, to its secluded open-sided chalets, oozes romance. It’s no surprise then that Sindabezi Island is a firm favourite for couples and newlyweds.
While it’s difficult to describe the magic of Sindabezi in words, recent honeymooners from the United Kingdom managed to articulate their experiences beautifully in a TripAdvisor Review about their stay…
“Sindabezi was the first stop on our honeymoon in Africa, and we stayed here 3 nights before moving on to a safari lodge in Botswana. It was perfect.
We were met at the airport by Brian, who would be our ‘guide’ during our stay at Sindabezi. He was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. From Tongabezi (which is itself beautiful!) it’s a 20min or so boat ride down the Zambezi to the island. What an introduction! The river is breathtakingly beautiful – it’s not possible to appreciate how majestic and full of life it is from photos. The island itself sits in the middle of the river with Zambia and Zimbabwe on either side. Our chalet (#4) was perfectly placed, with our terrace overlooking the riverbank of Zimbabwe’s Zambezi National Park from where we could spot plenty of animals – baboons, hippo, impala, crocs and elephant, as well as countless bird species.
The room has everything you need and is fully open to the outdoors. (This can be disconcerting on the first night when you hear all sorts of animal noises…!) Outdoor shower and bath were fantastic – a great way to cool off against the heat. In Dec it was very hot during the day, but by the evening would cool down comfortably.
We were incredibly lucky in that there were no other guests on the island during our stay, so we had our own private slice of heaven and were free to wander between the different chalets and communal areas. There are several communal spaces, all very nicely appointed. We had our meals (all delicious!) at different spots on the island. Staff were all very very friendly and helpful, and really look after you.
In addition to just lounging on the island, we did a trip to Victoria Falls and Livingstone Island, as well as a sunset boat trip. Both are recommended.
I would recommend Sindabezi in a heartbeat, and if it weren’t so far away, would go back often!”
Currently one of the top 10 eco lodges in Africa according to Fodor’s, Sindabezi Island consists of five open-sided thatched cottages, each offering spectacular views of the African bush. The island is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
