Makakatana’s New Lease on Life

Makakatana’s New Lease on Life

The pans are full and the wetland park is looking lush, green and plentiful! However, it wasn’t just the park that was rejuvenated during July.

Over the past couple of months, Makakatana Bay Lodge has been working on some major lodge upgrades and now that they’re all completed and looking fabulous, it’s time to show them off!

One of the most notable upgrades at the lodge was the addition of two brand new family rooms. Opening their doors to the public for the first time ever on the 2nd August, the new rooms are named Jabulani (meaning ‘happy’ in Zulu) and Bukela (meaning ‘to look out’) and are already fully booked for the month of August. The rooms have been designed to be spacious and comfortable and include an open plan main bedroom that opens onto a wonderful outdoor undercover deck. This deck offers spectacular views of the surrounding forest and pristine wilderness.

Each room has a king-sized bed, couch and corner writing table. There is an inside shower in the bathroom with a door leading to the outdoor bath and shower.

The kiddies pad is clipped onto the side of the main room and has a sliding door for privacy when desired. There are two single beds in the kiddies’ rooms and a third bed can be added if needed. Makakatana accepts children over 6 years old but may accept younger children in certain circumstances.

In addition to the two new family rooms and several other soft replacements, the boma has also been renovated. This social gathering place now has more space for guests to enjoy drinks around an open fire and dining under the African stars.

As if the lodge wasn’t perfect enough as it was, Makakatana has seriously ramped things up a level and we think guests are going to love indulging in it.
