It seems 2017 is the year for unveiling bigger and better things! Everywhere we look, camps are expanding, lodges are opening and ‘refurbishment’ seems to be the safari buzz word of the year.
Ever on trend, Governors’ Il Moran Camp has recently completed their camp refurbishment after months of hard work, and the result is simply dazzling. Drawing their inspiration from the Persian influences of East Africa, the idea behind the refurbishment was to bring a fresh energy to the camp while retaining the elegance and authenticity that has become synonymous with the Governors’ Camp Collection.
Antique furniture, jute rugs, rich leathers, copper and brass, all help enhance the camp’s new ‘Bedouin feel’. The white couches are scattered with richly coloured Indian throw cushion, and little trinkets such as Benin Bronzes decorate some of the surfaces.
It wasn’t just the main areas that received a makeover though. Perched on the winding banks of the Mara River, each of the 10 tents at Governors’ Il Moran were also given the royal treatment and are all looking lovely and fresh. The new white roof linings brighten the tents up, and some of the heavy olive wood furniture has been replaced. However, the olive beds and Victorian bath tubs are such favourites among guests that they just had to stay!
Widely regarded as the premiere camp in the Masai Mara, it would seem hard to improve upon Governors’ Il Moran, however, project management team, Thor Karstad and Alisa Bowen, have managed to do just that. Combining understated sophistication with the perfect balance of luxury, guests at Governors’ Il Moran Camp will be surprised by just how connected they feel to nature when staying at this intimate safari camp.
