Sunset is arguably the best time of day on safari, and Musango Island Safari Camp experiences some of the best sunsets in Africa on a daily basis.
Occupying a private island on Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba, Musango is surrounded by unrivaled views of the lake and the Matusadona National Park. From the elevated bar, dining room and lounge area in the main lodge area, guests can enjoy wonderful ‘armchair viewing’ opportunities. The real magic, however, begins in the afternoon as the sun begins to head towards the horizon. The lakes appears to catch fire as the last of the sun rays reflect off the water, silhouetting anything its pathway. This combination creates iconic African sunsets scenes that seem more like paintings than reality.
With a setting so surreal, it’s no surprise that recent guests, Cassie and Danny, chose Musango as their magical wedding spot. Choosing a beautiful spot where the bush meets the beach, Cassie and Danny said their vows on the shores of Lake Kariba and ended their special day with a stunning sunset photo shoot by Photos by Mana.
Photos by Mana shared what the day was like:
“Cassie and Danny were married on the shores of Lake Kariba on their own private beach in the exquisite Musango Safari Lodge concession. Elephant dung littered their unique ceremony site, while hippos and crocodiles kept a beady eye on proceedings from the nearby bay. The groom and his merry groomsmen kept things very low key, arriving shoeless for this African version of a beach wedding – while the bride and her bridal party were treated to constant visits throughout the morning from the very friendly wild bushbuck which live around the camp. A small group of elephant bulls browsed their way slowly across the opposite shore all morning and later on two hippos even started having a little tussle while we did the formal photos!”
