Just in time for the dry season, Tongabezi Lodge has completed their new swimming pool and bar area as well as their fully-equipped gymnasium.
Both can be found slightly removed from the rest of the lodge amenities. The pool offers a luxurious, tranquil and stylish place to chill on those activity ‘off’ days, which come highly recommended amongst all the Victoria Falls, Devil’s Pool and safari fun on offer around the Zambezi.
Built beautifully in keeping with that signature ‘barefoot luxury’ feel with the use of wood and wicker and decorated with shells, lanterns and natural tones the area even has private sunbathing booths, so couples can still enjoy a little privacy.
The pool is 17m long which means that guests can also do a few lengths should they choose, and the bar has two chillout zones with couches and hanging chairs.
The Gym and ‘The Tongabezi Stretch’
You would be forgiven for missing the gym entirely as it is neatly tucked away under the shade of the trees and topped with classic thatch.
Many Tongabezi guests have expressed an interest in wanting to continue with their fitness regimes whilst away and it also offers that added extra activity for those that struggle to sit still.
Meet Anusa, Tongabezi’s in-house Fitness Instructor…
Anusa hails from Serenge in Northern Zambia where he was born and grew up. At about the age of 15, he developed a keen interest in gymnastics and ended up excelling so much that he even competed in neighbouring areas such as Namibia, Malawi and South Africa. He was at a professional gymnastics level for 7 years and then decided to study fitness in Namibia where he obtained a certificate. He mostly worked in various fitness centres in Lusaka and Livingstone and joined the Tongabezi team in December in 2017.
He is qualified in fat loss, bodybuilding and body mass maintenance training. He is infamous for the ‘Tonga stretch’ which consists of a combination of karate, tae bo, tai chi, yoga and some gymnastics.
Anusa puts most of us to shame as he loves to keep fit and eat healthily. He refrains from eating refined foods, sugar and alcohol and he also believes that the body is self-healing if you provide it with what it needs. He finds it extremely rewarding when he trains people and they see results which in turn creates a positive self-image. It is this that drives him.
The pool and gym combined go hand in hand with that healthy, organic, eco-friendly, active lifestyle that Tongabezi Lodge promotes through existing offerings such as their food garden, wholesome gourmet meals, massage, relaxation and off the grid accommodation at Sindabezi Island.
