Governors’ Camp Collection is thrilled to unveil the stunning new look of Il Moran Camp!
Extensive upgrade work over October and November has catapulted Il Moran into a new league of luxury tented accommodation. The camp was reopened on the 24th December 2018, just in time to receive guests for Christmas! It is perfect for those looking to stay in the best wildlife location in the Masai Mara.

A beautiful new and large mess tent has been created right on the edge of the Mara River with a bird’s eye view of the game below – the perfect spot to sit back with a Gin & Tonic and watch all the interactions of the game below. Sitting on a raised decked platform, the new space is totally stunning with romantic lighting, over-sized couches and an open fire pit on the deck. Deep reds and royal blues blend with Indian brass, cowhides, and bold contrasting patterns and colours. A brightly beaded centrepiece chandelier results in an eclectic mix of safari chic and understated luxury.

All guest tents were refurbished in Phase One of the upgrade earlier in the year, with new soft furnishings of muted earthy tones and Swahili-style fabrics and all new linens. All floors were resurfaced with a contemporary micro-topping finish, and a welcoming lounge-seat built on each verandah invites guests to sit outside and enjoy the Mara bush surroundings.

They’ve kept Il Moran Camp small and intimate with just ten tents making this camp the perfect choice for honeymooners, couples and small traveling groups. We only ever allocate four guests per game drive vehicle in our brand new fleet of Toyota Landcruisers, therefore you have the full focus and attention of your guide, who also remains with you throughout your trip.

For the months of January and February, William Fortescue will be the ‘in house’ professional photographer across the Governors’ Camp Collection properties. Will has a first-class degree in Marine and Natural History Photography and is into his 8th month of working in the Mara. Being situated in the richest wildlife area in the Masai Mara, Governors’ want to ensure their guests are offered the opportunity to capture their safari wildlife moments in the best way and so Will has been based throughout the Mara camps for the last month, on hand to offer any of our guests any photography assistance they require. All help is completely free of charge and includes: getting the most of your camera, accompanied game drives, digital photo packages, and editing images. The Mara is looking particularly beautiful right now after some recent rain in January. There are cubs of all kinds everywhere right now, therefore it’s no surprise that renowned wildlife filmmakers such as Jonathan Scott (from @THEBIGCATPEOPLE) choose to base themselves from our camp, in order to capture the very best of the Masai Mara. Jonathan and Angela Scott are with us right now, working on a new project and we are very excited to see the result of almost two months filming right on our doorstep!
