Owned and run by the Rattray family, pioneers of Heritage Tourism in South Africa, Fugitives' Drift offers visitors an opportunity to experience the extraordinary sag of the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. The Lodge and Guest House are set in a 5000 acre game reserve, which overlooks the battlefield of Isandlwana and is home to giraffe, plains game and numerous birds.
The Lodge houses a veritable museum of memorabilia and artefacts. The spacious Harford Library with its extraordinary view provides a contemporary venue for lunch, parties or simply to relax. Both the Lodge and Guest House have comfortable and spacious rooms, each with a veranda. Both have swimming pools set in large gardens. Passionate about their home and the history of the South Africa, the Rattray family offer excellent hospitality and personal service along with great country style food.
The 15km frontage on the Buffalo River Gorge also includes the graves of Lieutenants Melvill VC and Coghill VC who lost their lives saving the Queen’s Colour. Fugitives' Drift is a registered Natural Heritage Site, and offers game viewing, walks, fly fishing and mountain biking. World renowned battlefield tours are conducted daily to Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift by our team of experienced guides who are all master story tellers. Brothers Andrew and Douglas Rattray have comfortably stepped into their father's shoes, and are continuing his legacy through their spell binding stories of the events of 1879.
