Celebrating The Hide’s Silver Safari Anniversary

Celebrating The Hide’s Silver Safari Anniversary

The past month has been a momentous one for The Hide Safari Camp as they marked their 25th anniversary with a very special occasion.

In thanks and dedication to their long-standing supporters and friends and those who have been a part of their incredible journey, The Hide Safari Camp had a two-night safari extravaganza and celebration. Distinguished guests were welcomed to The Hide with sunset champagne and canapes at the termite mound – one of the camp’s favorite sundowner spots, boasting incredible panoramic views.

Following sundowners, the guests attended the Silver Safari Anniversary dinner, aimed at encapsulating all that this iconic camp has represented over 25 years. The setting was simply spectacular, and guests and staff were all dressed to taste with a touch of silver.

Emotions ran high as Angus Preston made an outstanding speech, paying tribute to his father who first stood in the wilds of Hwange, saw the extraordinary possibilities and put them to life. He also paid tribute and immense gratitude to his mother, who has been an incredible driving force and, who still to this day, works astoundingly hard at making The Hide one of Zimbabwe’s most awarded safari camps.

The following morning, after a lavish breakfast, guests were taken on a morning game drive while the camp staff dashed out to set up a surprise bush bunch near the famous ‘Doves Nest’. The morning’s excitement was matched with incredible sightings of elephant and lion!

After retiring to their tents to relax, and for some afternoon tea, Angus Preston made a presentation on the exciting new developments and progress made over the years. This included the recent renovations as well as our community initiatives. Guests were then invited to a sneak-peak of the luscious organic veggie garden, tree plantation, and some of the innovative green initiatives lead by the wonderful Christabelle Peech.

The final evening was truly an unforgettable experience as guests were invited to The Private Hide for an ‘Out-of-Africa’ themed evening of Champagne, tasty canapes and delicious cocktails.

It was an extraordinarily beautiful evening – the surrounding sky was black with ominous rain clouds, but golden sunlight showered down on The Private hide. The mood was elevated when traditional dancers, the ‘Ingonyama’ from Dete community, performed a fantastic show.

The evening and occasion came to a perfect end with a relaxing dinner and speeches of gratitude, emanating The Hide’s outstandingly warm, friendly, family-style hospitality that has been developed and perfected over 25 years.

The Hide would like to thank their staff who work so hard and managed to make this occasion so special, as well as the incredible Preston’s who created the camp, guests and friends, and everyone who has believed in creating something exceptional in a wonderful corner of Africa.
