Connect with the desert at Wolwedans Boulders Camp

It’s that time of year when the travel and tourism industry displays their products in their best way possible.

It’s the start of the 2017 tourism season. Many lodges and camps are distributing new rates for the upcoming year and addressing their economic fitness in one-way or another. Others are addressing renovations and upgrades in order to wow Southern Africa’s guests. Some are preparing for AGM’s, like the international tourism organisation, The Long Run. This is a meeting of like-minded conservation focused and sustainability centric businesses, such as Wolwedans Collection of camps and lodges, and others, in late September in the Cape.

Well, at Wolwedans Boulders Camp we have embarked on a few key projects that will enhance our visitors’ experience and bring them closer to the desert environment in the heart of the Namib.

As we prepare for our annual 3-month closure of Boulders Safari Camp, from 1 December – 1st March 2018, we are also putting the finishing touches on a bold new booking calendar for this camp. Boulders Safari Camp will be operating on a 3-day booking schedule, unique to the camp, although ideal for a Wolwedans experience at any of our sites. The 3-day schedule allows for us to really pamper our guests with a full itinerary of activities, spoil them with surprises and weave the Wolwedans magic with time.

As of the 1st March 2018, we will offer guests a wider variety of activities, including Solitaire (the quiet experience) and therapeutic massages, amongst others activities.

Visitors to Boulders Safari Camp are treated to a luxury canvas tented experience in one of Africa’s wildest places. Deep in the south of the NamibRand Private Nature Reserve, where massive granite boulders suspended in the vast landscapes surround us. The closest airstrip is Farm Aandster, so guests wishing to arrive by plane can land in the south of the reserve with short transfers to the camp.

In 2018, a 5th room will be added to the camp – this is exciting news for inter-generational groups and large families travelling to the reserve. Whilst we are closed, we will also focus on a substantial solar upgrade, room enhancements, and standard extensions, which will be announced early next year to dovetail with the camps reopening in March 2018.

Our team is ready to welcome you and your guests on a desert safari experience that takes a closer look at our unique ecology and wildlife. Allow our watering holes, situated close to the viewing decks at all our sites, to intrigue you and get you in touch with the natural world around you.
