In the last month, The Hide felt truly honoured to be part of a special initiative.
Behring Global Educational Foundation and Mavros Safaris in conjunction with The Hide Community Trust got together with the local community and presented five extraordinary children and adults with smart new wheelchairs. The ceremony was graced with parents and families, elders from the nearby village, representatives from Behring, The Hide and Patrick Mavros himself, who entertained the audience with his amusing anecdotes. The wheelchair recipients’ happiness was reflected not just in their smiles but in the jubilant moves of a troupe of traditional dancers.
No matter what your skill level, The Hide’s resident photographer, Neil Fairlie, (who is also available at Changa Safari Camp), will provide adventurous photography enthusiasts with a better understanding and appreciation of their wild subjects; our guests come away from their safari experience vastly enriched, not just with a wonderful record of magical memories, but with a renewed passion for wildlife, landscapes, nature and the art of photography.
The Hide was proud to sponsor cyclist, Robin Whaley, who took part in the recent Pumping Legs for Water event held in Hwange National Park at the end of July. Pumping Legs was started ten years ago after Zimbabwe received insufficient rains and there was a desperate need for increased water sources for the wildlife. This is where Wildlife & Environment Zimbabwe (WEZ) stepped in and organised the two-day ride through the park, with support from Zimbabwe National Parks & Wildlife Management.
More than 100 mountain bikers from all over the country and the world come together every year now in Hwange and ride to raise funds for the purchase of much-needed tanks, solar panels, tools, fuel, spare parts and maintenance of the borehole pumps and The Hide has always been an enthusiastic supporter.
