Our delicate biome, home to a treasury of colourful fauna and flora, is a sought after safari destination.
While we are always in awe of the magnificent predator sightings we witness while out on a drive, we most certainly take time to appreciate the more ‘tame’ sightings and the emergence of new flora into the bushveld. Life is always beautiful over here at Ghoha Hills.
Recently, we’ve had plenty of rare roan visiting the pan in front of the lodge. Due to the weather conditions, the plains game have been filtering down to the small waterhole in front of our lodge – a “local” for our game. Of course, the predators are always there, waiting in the bushes. When the plains game scatters, we see the lion coalitions emerging from the thickets.
Our day trips into the Savuti Marsh include plenty of stops at pans heaving with wildlife. Three of the big five were spotted during one of our day trips into the Savuti marsh – leopard, lion and elephant! There are prolific lion sightings at the moment – as mentioned above.
Recently, the lions have been frequenting the pan in front of the lodge and the elephants have been enjoying the spoils of the waterhole at the hide. It’s fantastic to see giraffe, elephant and plains game congregating on the water’s edge, living in harmony in the wild.
These are just a few of our recent sightings enjoyed while out on game drive – and from the comfort of our luxury lodge. The perks of being located on top of a hill? The expansive views and a birds-eye view of the waterhole below. We’ve seen wild dogs in action, huge breeding herds of buffalo frequenting the waterholes and rare roan antelope replenishing their thirst at known waterholes.
