Liquid Gold Sunshine at Changa Safari Camp

Liquid Gold Sunshine at Changa Safari Camp

Sunshine has been described as “the most precious gold to be found on earth” and it can certainly be found in abundance at Changa Safari Camp in Zimbabwe’s Matusadona National Park.

Changa, on the lapping shores of Lake Kariba, is counting down to a warm and wonderful Christmas in the sun! Visiting the camp in their numbers at the moment are the banded mongooses, which are mobbing the birdbaths for freshwater, the hippos in the bay are slipping into the lake’s cool depths on the approach of any boats, impala are shyly picking their way to the welcoming water’s edge in front of camp, giant kingfishers are plummeting into the water at any opportunity and elephant have a permanent tide mark.

It’s October-hot and Changa has a menu of mighty welcome cool ideas to keep campers happy. After a morning safari drive or walk, take a dip and laze on stripy loungers in the swimming pool, sip on a long cocktail, take an afternoon siesta and watch birds flutter in the spray positioned outside your tent, shower in the lake breeze or bathe under the stars.

While there are many ways to keep cool, Changa uses pure sunshine gold to power the camp, reducing pollution and its carbon footprint. Now 100% off the grid and proudly reliant on solar power, Changa has an impressive 60 solar panels (15.6Kw) above the workshops and garage, out of the sight of guests and charging up to 12 super long-life flooded batteries especially designed for a hot climate. It’s hot and happening at Changa!
