Looking Forward with Fugitives’ Drift Lodge

Looking Forward with Fugitives’ Drift Lodge

2017, along with our major renovations, are officially behind us! The team at Fugitives’ Drift Lodge and our guests are loving the new look and feel of the lodge.

We are also encouraged by the rain we have had, as it has turned the brittle brown grass to an emerald green and everything, including the animals, are flourishing.

22 January was the 139th anniversary of the Battles of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift. The King of the Zulus and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi were in attendance at a commemoration event at Isandlwana.

Today, Isandlwana is one of the most atmospheric and unspoiled battlefields in the world. A reserve has been established there, and it is possible to retrace the steps of the few men who escaped from the encircling Zulu horn down to the Buffalo River at the Fugitives’ Drift five miles away. Here, two British officers heroically died trying to save the Queen’s Colour of their Regiment, and in so, won some of the first posthumous Victoria Crosses in history.

Fugitives’ Drift is a truly wonderful place. We have a reserve of 5000 acres, and our prize-winning Lodge and Guest House have commanding views over Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift. We own the site where the Victoria Crosses were won in the Buffalo River, and it is from here that we conduct our tours. We have the finest guides in this industry working for us and offer spellbinding tours over these battlefields and many others. We pride ourselves in giving the finest battlefield experience in the world.
