Lions and Starbeds at Mkulumadzi

Lions and Starbeds at Mkulumadzi

Malawi’s lion population is growing as six wild lions have been safely transported from South Africa to their new homes in Majete Wildlife Reserve and Liwonde National Park to help revive the parks’ predator populations.

Just last week, four of these lions (two males and two females) joined the two male lions who were translocated to Liwonde in February this year. We moved the other two males to Majete Wildlife Reserve to improve the genetic diversity of the current lion population there. All lions are in secure bomas where they are adjusting to their new environment and bonding and will be released over the coming weeks and months.

In other news, we had our first guest use our star deck at Mkululmadzi. A truly unique and unforgettable experience, the star deck can host a maximum of two people. The cosy set-up includes a double bed with cotton linen, bedside tables, a canopy mosquito net, lanterns and seating, perfect for sharing with someone special in the midst of a truly wild and stunning natural paradise.

You will have your dinner at the main lodge, and afterwards will be driven up to the star bed for the evening.  You will be provided with a radio to communicate with the lodge.  A security guard will be nearby (but not too close… so as to allow you privacy). You will be picked up in the morning for breakfast and your game activities.
