Big Cave Camp hosted the first “Journeys with Gerald” mountain biking tour in June.
This was extremely exciting for us as it was a collaboration between a cycling tour operator, Rohan Sturridge, from Detours, and the very well known sports presenter, Gerald De Kock. The tour was aimed at those individuals who have grown tired of bike racing, and are now looking for an adventure!
The tour comprised two nights at Big Cave and three nights at a Camp Dwala in the eastern Matopos. The guests were accompanied by at least two of us locals guiding them as they explored untamed single track through the communal areas and National Park.
There was a strong emphasis on the historical side of this world heritage area, with visits to battle sites from the Matabele rebellion, as well as visits to the famous rock art galleries and rhino tracking by bicycle.
All in all, it was a wonderful few days, and the guests and Gerald absolutely loved it!
