Nambwa’s Spectacular Sundowner Sightings

Nambwa’s Spectacular Sundowner Sightings

Another wonderful and busy season has passed at African Monarch Lodge’s Nambwa Tented Lodge. Being one of the only two lodges (with its sister-camp Kazile Island Lodge) within Bwabwata National Park has its perks!

Nature always steals the show, with wildlife sightings to astound one and all that visit this special corner of paradise.

Last week, Nambwa Tented Lodge hosted a corporate incentive group. While setting up the sundowner scene, where guests would stop for a famous Bwabwata Gin & Tonic after their game drive, numerous herds of elephants came down to drink and frolic in the lagoon.

ELEPHANT HERD

Soon enough an even more astonishing sighting caught the staff’s attention, as a wild dog set chase after a kudu right in front of them! The kudu, having nowhere else to flee to, ran straight into the water (with the crocodiles and hippos). Neither stupid nor that desperate, the wild dog eventually lost interest and wandered off.

When the guests then arrived for their sundowner, the staff shared with them this epic story, but they shrugged it off as a tall tale. However, as the sun dipped ever closer to the horizon, guests sipping on their sundowners were interrupted by an impala dashing through their group and leaping over the shoulder of one of the seated ladies…with the determined wild dog short on its heels! The energy was charged as everyone stood in absolute disbelief at what had just transpired.

With such whimsical tales, excellent cat sightings and often elephant herds estimated at up to 800-1000 strong sighted around Nambwa and Horseshoe Bend, it is safe to say that the natural wilderness of this corner of the Zambezi will never cease to astonish and amaze!
