Onguma’s fabulous water-level hide affords guests a great opportunity to calmly sit and enjoy nature unobserved. Amateur and professional photographers alike love the angles and light from this equipped hide.
There is a small ablution facility nearby, benches from which to view the surroundings and lots of windows and vantage points for creative camera angles.

Rich Dyson was one of the in-residence photographers in 2018 and this is his little story:
“What an end to an amazing day! This cheetah had just had an unsuccessful attempt at catching a group of impala and then a jackal. As it made its way to its bed for the night, it stood on top of a mound and surveyed its territory with a beautiful sunset behind it. The trackers from Onguma Safari Camps lit up the scene with their headlights and created this beautiful image.”
The part of Namibia that Onguma is situated in has been identified as one of the key birdwatching sites in Southern Africa. More than 300 bird species can be viewed at Onguma. Bird and Wildlife in-residence photographer, Daniel Dolpire, managed to capture this comical sequence of a Cape Griffon vulture and a Blue Wildebeest at the Onguma Onkolo Hide:
It’s not just the in-residence photographer that have been taking some amazing photographs – the guests have too! Onguma guest, Corinne Marquat, captured some hilarious photos of some lionesses that decided to enjoy a fresh zebra kill right next to the sundowner spot that had been set up. It just goes to show that sometimes plans require improvisations when in nature!

“We stayed here for 3 nights. The staff and accommodation were wonderful and the food good. You can lie in bed at night and watch the waterhole for visitors! The highlight for us was that in the space of one day, we saw a lioness, 3 cheetahs and a leopard all drinking here from the watering hole – along with the usual suspects (springbok, impala, warthogs, giraffe etc)! It definitely heightens your senses when are walking to your room to know that there are such creatures wandering around the camp!
The small number of rooms (7) makes for a nice quiet atmosphere and there is plenty of opportunity after dinner to swap travellers’ tales with the other guests around the fire pit.
