Sindabezi Island’s closest neighbours (the hippos) have always one thing going for them that our human guests did not: the hippos could go for a swim…and boy did they like to rub it in!
Splashing around outside each room and laughing in grunts as they vanished into the cool and murky water.
Sindabezi is a not so secret favourite of the Tongabezi Team and of people from all around the world. What’s not to love? It’s an exclusive, luxury island that sits right by a national park, is surrounded by wildlife and birdlife, and comes with your very own chef, boat and guide. Our founder Benjamin Parker even got married there in 1996, canoeing to the ceremony and catching a fish on the way (luckily his fiancee, now our Managing Director Vanessa, thought this was entertaining rather than a bit odd).
So we couldn’t possibly accept a flaw in Sinda, no matter how small. We went to work this year, and have just completed this beautiful addition to the island.
Now the worry isn’t the laughing of the hippos next door, but whether they might try to take a dip in our brand new pool!
