Located in the epicenter of Cape Town’s inner-city, on the legendary Long Street, the unique charm, personality, and character of the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel embodies all things local and ‘lekker’.
Bustling with an energy that is quintessentially South African, the Grand Daddy is so much more than a hotel. Having been operating as a boutique hotel for over 120 years, the hotel is a local landmark and heritage building.
Keeping things Quirky
One of the first features you’ll notice after entering the hotel is the custom-made reception desk. Made from a collection of vintage travel suitcases, the desk serves as the first example of the quirky yet tasteful style that the Grand Daddy has become so famous for.
Rooftop Trailer Park
A trip to the top floor in the vintage elevator (Cape Town’s oldest operational elevator) reveals the biggest talking-point of the Grand Daddy – a rooftop ‘trailer park’ with seven authentic Airstream trailers imported from the USA.
Each trailer has been uniquely designed to reflect various stops on a typical South African road trip. Drawing inspiration from around the country, the trailers allow guests to experience a taste of different parts of South Africa, all from this convenient city-centre rooftop location.
Monday Movie Nights
In addition to the seven air-conditioned trailers, the Grand Daddy rooftop also has a sky bar where friends can gather on the wooden deck to enjoy a cocktail or cold beer while soaking up Cape Town’s spectacular sky-line. On Monday nights, the rooftop is transformed into a movie cinema, known as The Pink Flamingo Rooftop Cinema. With regular showings of popular films, this activity has become a firm favourite with locals and guests alike.
Sweet Suites
If the trailers are all booked up, or perhaps you’re looking for a more ‘traditional’ hotel stay, the hotel rooms and suites are also well worth exploring. Recently refurbished by Beach House Interiors and bursting with vibrant colour and character, the accommodation options range from standard to luxury but all offer the creature comforts of an internationally recognised four-star hotel, peppered with clever local touches.
Wine O’Clock
Cape Town is wine country and a stay in the beautiful city would not be complete without ‘Wine O’Clock’! At the Grand Daddy, the managers welcome afternoon check-in guests with a complimentary glass of South African wine to kickstart their stay.
Stylish, trendy, and proudly South African, this city-chic escape certainly is Cape Town’s most original, convenient and fun place to stay.
