As the summer heat intensifies in Zambia, so does the action in the Luangwa Valley and this year has been no exception!
The predators have also been showing off their skills with the hyenas up in the Nsefu sector growing daily in confidence, choosing to bask in the early morning sun after a successful evening out! They are certainly making the most of a young deceased elephant and just north of camp though they are having to share the spoils with the vultures and marabous who are forever squabbling with each other over the food even though there is more than enough to go around.
Guests were also treated to regular sightings of a leopard and her cub, as well as numerous sightings of lion, including a kill not far from camp and countless wild dog encounters.
Not letting the predators steal all the limelight, we have been fortunate to bear witness to a number of fishing parties up at Lunga Lagoon and the Tena Tena guests have been inundated with pelicans and yellow-billed storks feasting on the fish in the drying up lagoons. The marabou storks are also there picking up anything that they can along with the fish eagles who swoop in from their viewing points high in the trees to steal a meal from some poor unsuspecting and hardworking stork. It really is quite a feeding frenzy.
The camp was also happy to introduce their newest member – a tiny bushbuck who has taken a liking to Tena Tena and is being spotted quite regularly in camp.
With all the buzz of activity going on, the season has flown by quicker than ever and on the 31st of October Tena Tena will officially ‘close its doors’ and pack up before the rainy season. Time flies when you are having fun!
