Ghoha Hills has been rife with predator activity at the moment, with ample sightings of a lone lioness exploring the immediate surrounds.
We have enjoyed many up close and personal sightings of this lioness and even tracked her in the vehicle for quite some time. She appeared to be in search of her pride, and we often hear her contact calling.
With the ample greenery around, the giant herbivores and plains game are out in full force. There was a typical ‘Botswana scene’ that we managed to photograph – pods of hippo in the waterhole, elephants on the banks, roan antelope drinking and birdlife all at the waterhole in one session. A scene that provided plenty of wildlife moments in one scene!
Chobe region is known as the “Land of Giants” because of its high population of elephants – and we certainly enjoy plentiful elephant sightings. The elephant sightings have been on the increase, and yet again it’s because of the abundant water supplies and ample access to fresh vegetation.
There are two other wildlife sightings that have stood out this month – and that’s because of the rarity of the species. Firstly, the roan antelopes, which provide consistent sightings, indicating that they’re happy in their natural environment. It must be roan season! Then we’ve also tracked and spotted the African wild dog while out on day trips into the Savuti region. The dogs are normally nomadic and only sedentary during their denning period which is from May – Aug. It’s been incredible to spot them outside of this period of time.
Long may our sightings continue to enthral and inspire guests!
