Wolwedans has earned a place of honour in the regional tourism circuit after gaining local acclaim for best practice in business. Not only did the collection receive an outstanding 5-Flower rating from the Eco-Awards Namibia committee recently, but also placed runner-up in a search by the Environmental Investment Fund’s award for “Excellence in Industry”.
Both awards recognize high standards at all levels of operations. In terms of criteria, the Eco-Awards committee stringently assessed general efficiency as well as the management of waste, water and energy. In addition, the inspectors closely gauged Wolwedans’ contribution towards conservation. This included protection of wildlife, promotion of indigenous flora and geographical impact of buildings and landscaping on the environment. No stone was left unturned. Every detail from management policies to staff activities was closely scrutinized to determine the degree to which operations at Wolwedans affect the environment. After several days of assessment, a grueling schedule, and numerous weeks of anxious anticipation, Wolwedans received a score of above 90%. This amazing outcome resulted in a phenomenal 5-flower rating – the highest possible achievement under the Eco Awards ranking system!
What’s more, Wolwedans went on to clinch a runner-up placement for the Sustainable Development Award, in the category, “Excellence in Industry”. This sought after award by the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) positioned Wolwedans second only to Ohorongo Cement. The awards were presented at a private ceremony attended by the EIF Board Chairperson, Malan Lindeque as well as the CEO, Benedict Libanda in Windhoek, during the month of May.
