A splurge of sightings at John’s Camp

A splurge of sightings at John’s Camp

Mana this year is going to be an interesting one, to say the least, as we are experiencing a very dry season, and going forward into October/November it’s going to get considerably drier and hotter, nevertheless, game sightings and guest experience will be phenomenal.

Lions are taking full advantage of all the game having to descend earlier than usual onto the flood plain as a result of all inland pans having already dried up. The grass is virtually nonexistent and feeding difficult.  And we have had some fantastic sightings of lions having made a fresh kill of a young impala with Milo and a guest having been lucky enough to witness the whole event unfold right before them!

The nyala and kudu are regularly having to run the gauntlet on their way to drink at Long Pool and each time they are able to quench their thirst successfully is a small triumph.   We also have a new and regular visitor to camp by the name of JD – Short for Juvenile Delinquent and as his name suggests, this is probably the biggest bodied elephant in Mana Pools currently and is an absolute Gem of an elephant. Whilst being a gentle and graceful giant he lacks in the respect department for the back of house in the camp and casually goes about causing chaos on his way through the camp, having realized he is the boss and no one can stop him!

We were thrilled to have Jeff, Molly and Wyatt Keller who are almost like family and are in fact John’s Camps oldest and most treasured guests as they were the first family ever to pass through John’s Camp in August 2009 when Milo and Sarah resurrected John and Nicci’s original camp which had been mothballed for 10 years. They have been on many safaris with us and we are pleased to share with everybody a few shots from what they describe as their best Mana trip to date.

John has been guiding them for 5 days in the camp and they have had some epic days out, to say the least, here are just some of the highlights of their stay and they have had some incredible sightings.
