The reserve protects the last population of coastal-dwelling elephants in Southern Africa and is home to plentiful wildlife and around 350 bird species. In this paradise, you can watch humpback whales breaching in the bay, perhaps be lucky enough to snorkel with pods of wild dolphins, encounter elephant herds strolling by and hear fish eagles calling overhead.
The lodge overlooks the Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine Reserve and its white sandy beaches are prime leatherback and loggerhead turtle nesting grounds. Every year from October to March the turtles lumber onto the beach in front of the lodge to lay the next generation.
This tented lodge is absolutely magnificent in all its simplicity. The casinhas are built entirely of wood and canvas under thatch and can be opened up to their own private deck. The main dining area and open-air bar have beach sand floors and all the structures have a minimal impact on the environment. The ten casinhas are tucked into the tangled coastal dune forests and are the ultimate picture of romantic luxury, seclusion, and privacy. All one hears is the sound of the ocean and surrounding nature.
