Big moves at Fugitives’ Drift Lodge

The beginning of April brought a huge change to Fugitives’ Drift, as Andrew and Anel Rattray, and their three little girls, packed up and moved across to the Western Cape to build and run a new hotel at the Craggs, Plettenberg Bay.

We are very excited for this new venture! This move meant that we had to hire a new chef, as Anel was previously running the kitchen. New chef Jason has now been with us for about three weeks and we are all thoroughly enjoying all of his homemade bread, cakes, and cheeses.

On April 7th, Doug Rattray and his partner Daisy were privileged to attend the wedding ceremony of Captain and Mrs. Sam and Marike Large. Sam met Marike, who was working at Fugitives’ Drift at the time, during his visit three years ago. Sam is a member of the Royal Welsh and was chosen by his regiment to come out to Fugitives’ Drift for three weeks to learn some of the history of his regiment in more detail and take guests on guided walks of the Fugitives’ Trail, and to the graves of Melvill and Coghill. After almost three years of maintaining their relationship across the world, Sam and his wife will now return to Wales; we wish them a very happy life together.
