We’re halfway through the season at John’s Camp and there has been lots going on!
We’ve had frequent night visits from a mischievous resident honey badger (we’ve had to electrify the kitchen area to keep our food safe!), multiple sightings of wild dogs and even had a leopard in camp!
Collen, the camp’s freelance guide managed to get some beautiful photographs of the day’s sightings while out with guests – including elephants, lions, and even the leopard!
A night spent on our newly renovated star deck has been a highlight for many guests. Nestled amongst the Acacia albida trees, there’s nothing quite like gazing up at the starlit sky from the comfort of your bed before falling asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the African bush surrounding you! Erected next to a beautiful Acacia albida tree, the raised platform overlooks the floodplain, with the river and the beautiful Zambian Escarpment in the distance making for a breathtaking sunrise. What an unforgettable experience!
“The tents in the camp are very comfortable, but you must take the chance to sleep out at least one time on the deck, where you can go to sleep staring at the stars and wake up even closer to the sounds of the bush, with a view of the sunrise and out onto the Zambezi channel from 3m up. The deck is set up with beds, just like those in the tents and covered by a mosquito net, but are otherwise open to the stars. There is also a loo on the deck so you don’t need to worry about having a little too much to drink before going to bed!” – Review from a recent guest
Guests have also celebrated special occasions on the deck. Enjoying a beautiful lantern-lit dinner, singing happy birthday with the sounds of hippos down below.
